Bio/Description

Sophia Millman is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of French and Italian and a fellow in the Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program in the Humanities. She is completing a certificate in Gender and Sexuality Studies and is also enrolled in the Teaching Transcript program. At Princeton, she has taught introductory French courses as well as ”Introduction to Gender and Sexuality Studies” and “Surrealism at One Hundred.” She works as a graduate fellow at the Writing Center. 

Sophia's dissertation is about the Altersstil (old age style) of Simone de Beauvoir, Agnès Varda, Maryse Condé, and Annie Ernaux. Her recent articles have appeared in La Revue des lettres modernes and Women in French Studies, and her next article will be published in The French Review. She is currently working on projects about feminist philosophical pessimism and the photography of Martine Franck, as well as translating the latest book by French historian Sylvie Chaperon into English. She serves as the Book Review Editor at Simone de Beauvoir Studies and would be delighted to discuss the journal’s publication process with any interested graduate students.
